Gloria Ann Smith, 87, of Columbia City, passed away at 8:48 p.m. on September 4, 2025, at Parkview Randallia, Fort Wayne, where she was a patient for the past two weeks. Born on March 31, 1938, on the family farm near New Haven, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Glen and Gladys Maire (Bowsman) Ruby.

In 1963, the family moved back to Columbia City to join the family business, Smith Funeral Home.  Following in the family footsteps, Terry became the fifth-generation funeral director.  In 1982, they purchased the business, incorporating it under Smith & Sons Funeral Homes, Inc., and adding Smith & Sons Miller Chapel in South Whitley.  Gloria served as the corporate secretary and treasurer and managed the office.  

Gloria is the mother of Scott Smith; licensed funeral director with Smith & Sons Funeral Home; former District #2 Director and Past President of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association. Scott is currently a board member of the Indiana Funeral Education Foundation.
